Mavericks Surf Competition 2010

Friday night we drove out to Half Moon Bay to camp out for the Mavericks Surf Competition. After staying up till around 2am, we woke up at 5:30 to head in. We were part of the first group of people there, so we got first dibs on where we wanted to sit. (brilliant choice) We decided to sit up on the rocks, to look down on the wave. What we didn't know was that we should have brought binoculars so we could tell who was surfing the wave. All we could see was the surfer go down the wave front, but couldn't make out who it was.

LOTS of people have been asking us about this rogue wave that took out a bunch of people. Yes, it did happen. We were up on the rocks so we didn't see it happen, but I happened to go to the bathroom a few minutes after. While in there they blocked them off for about 10 minutes while bringing ambulances out. I could hear people taking outside them saying people had broken bones and were all cut up. I finally pushed my way out of the bathroom and saw another few ambulances pass by. Here is a link to a youtube video of it. It is kinda long, so just watch the first 30 sec to 1 minute of it. You will get the just.

All in all, it was really fun. If we go again we will either sit closer to the beach or bring binoculars! :)
